National Cross Country League Uneven Age Championships
Today in Dungarvan it was a case of the day after the day before or really the last three days of rain where the ground underfoot was not ideal at all (see photo below) for any type of running never mind a National Cross Country Championships. But that did not deter JD Kelly (U11 Boys) who ran in his first national today and had a super race in these harsh conditions to finish 116 out of a field of 168. Well done JD.
Lusk AC also had Katie Halpin out who is no stranger to the championships running in her 5th cross country championships. She pulled out all the experience of her previous championships to plough her way through the muck and dirt. At one stage it was thought that she – along with a number of others – had pulled out due to the underfoot conditions getting worse from the earlier races.
But that did not happen and Katie finished in 41st position out of a field of 158 – not a bad finish at all. Well done Katie. It cannot be stated enough how bad the conditions were so for both JD and Katie to finish was an achievement in itself. Well done to you both.
Thank you also to the parents and coaches today for helping out.
